Bio
Aimee Maschhoff creates bold, evocative portraits that challenge the traditional narrative of portraiture by using unconventional skin tones. Her work explores identity, race, and emotion, inviting viewers to look beyond surface appearances and connect with deeper layers of the subject. Maschhoff, who holds a BS in Physical Therapy from St. Louis University (1994), began focusing on portraiture in 2020, influenced by her understanding of human anatomy.
In 2024, Maschhoff was selected as an Emerging Artist for the nationally recognized 4-Bridges Art Festival in Chattanooga, TN. This milestone solidified her commitment to sharing her art with a broader audience. Her uncle, a practicing artist, has been a significant influence on her journey. His professional dedication to his craft, combined with Maschhoff’s experiences attending his art shows in Chicago, shaped her lifelong passion for art.
Maschhoff's portraits integrate unique and bold color palettes, often incorporating alternative skin tones to reflect the fleeting nature of appearance and challenge conventional notions of identity and race. She uses acrylics and mixed media to create works that are both visually striking and thought-provoking. Her artistic practice is informed by the history of portraiture and contemporary artistic movements and materials.
Since beginning her portraiture practice, Maschhoff has exhibited at the Association for Visual Art, Community Artists League, and Wanderlinger Art Gallery in Chattanooga, TN, as well as See Saw Gallery in Manchester, NH and Powell Lane Arts in Collingswood, NJ. Most recently, she was invited to exhibit in a two-person show at the Creative Arts Guild in Dalton, GA. Maschhoff currently lives and works in Ooltewah, TN.
